In 1997 Steve Gregory broke the UK match record at Drayton Reservoir with 297lb beating the previous 199lb by just under 100lb, this was closely followed by 304lb 05oz. Drayton Reservoir was one of the first commercial fisheries around at the time and weights like this were unheard of. It soon became apparent that this style of fishing would be the future and Steve took full advantage of the situation.
Shortly after Earlswood Lakes came on to the scene and Steve found the fishing much to his liking and plundered a massive 414lb 14oz of 2lb carp to smash the record once again. Another title to add to his belt was the Browning UK Pole Masters Champion from at Cudmore Fishery in Staffordshire.
Fishing has become a big part of Steve's life, although now most of the fishing is on commercials but not exclusively. This site is dedicated to fishing in general and any information on here is included for the help and benefit of all.
Formed to cater for the demands of the commercial match angler and pleasure angler alike, Miracle Baits develops, manufactures and supplies fishing baits to the fishing trade and direct to the public. We sell baits that catch fish not anglers, all our baits are used by myself, Steve Gregory.
We have seen many bait companies come and go but we are still around, the majority of our customers are by word of mouth, the best advertising possible as we don't advertise in the press. Miracle Baits is just a small company and all our baits are packed by hand ensuring the highest possible quality, anything substandard will be rejected so you get quality at an affordable price.
The most successful product in our range has to be Miracle Paste, this is what we are famous for. Miracle Paste was the first modern day paste to hit the commercial fisheries and hit them BIG STYLE, no other paste has ever accounted for so many big weights and records and has helped so many people break their personal best weights. The paste has a unique texture that allows it to be fished soft but can be shipped out with ease and you can have confidence that it will stay on the hook much longer than most. The fish find the combination of ingredients irresistible and bites come thick and fast. You can see a full guide to mixing and fishing the paste on the bait master class page.
Fishery features, bait master-class, hints and tips, blog, on-line store and much more
Anyone can catch a good net of fish like this, it's all down to practice and confidence in what you do. Every good angler starts at the bottom and works his/her way up.
These are just a few from the huge haul of carp from Moon Lake, all paste caught fish on the pole using Miracle Baits, Paste, Elite expanders, 2.3mm Sinking Pellets and Pellet Crumb. You can see how it's done on the fishery features page, Just give it a go and you will be surprised just how easy it is.
Commercial fisheries have improved over the years, most now offer amenities such as toilets, cafe, bait shop on-site and some even supply nets. One leap forward is access, on a lot of the fisheries you can park adjacent to your peg, so there are no long walks.
This has it's downside, we tend to take much more tackle than we need because of the fact. One thing that has happened dramatically is the size of the fish, some are now almost specimen size. That has an effect on tackle, we now need stronger tackle than ever before but the trend in the tackle industry is to make poles lighter and stiffer.
This compromises the strength and pole breakages are now common place. The worrying thing is, this will generally get worse over the years as the fish grow even more. Come on tackle trade wake up and get some thicker walled poles made like the older type. The increase in carbon price has been the single most influence on poles, it now has reached a ridiculous price due to a worldwide shortage (or so we are told).
We the anglers are partially to blame for these fragile poles, always looking for lighter, longer ones to fish that little bit further. My philosophy is if its not comfortable to fish long with a pole get the rod out and do what we used to do, yes they hold a reel too, strange things, My opinion for what it's worth is all fisheries should have a pole length limit, fishing 19m plus is just silly and keeps anglers away, 16m is ample, most anglers now have a 16m pole. It's a fact, a lot of anglers have forgotten how to use a rod, but everyone should fish places where they need one to keep in touch with their skills. The only worrying thing about using rods however is, on some commercial fisheries the method feeder and pellet/bagging waggler has been used in excess. This tends to take the fish away from the pole line and kill it as a pole venue, sometimes fish cannot be caught on the pole at all. With that in mind I have introduced some pole only open matches in my area, this tends to make the fishing better in my opinion but touchy subject with some.
On this site I will be doing some features on different fisheries using different methods and anglers, it's not all carp, pellet and paste, you might even see me hook a maggot or worm, now that will be worth looking at.
